What this is

Now you connect the temporary office key so Hermes can talk to a model. Your facilitator will name the exact provider and model to use today.

Why it matters

This is the moment Hermes goes from "installed" to "working." Doing it carefully — with a temporary key and a quick test — builds the habit of treating keys as private from day one.

What to do

Follow the facilitator's exact steps. In general:

1. Run hermes model (or use the setup screen) and pick the class provider and model.
2. Paste the temporary key only where Hermes asks for it — never into a chat or document.
3. Send a hello test to confirm it replies:

Say hello and tell me in one line what you can help me with.

Remember: this key is temporary and will be revoked after class. Do not save it for later.

Common mistakes

• Choosing a different model than the one the facilitator named.
• Saving or screenshotting the key "to reuse at home."
• Skipping the hello test and assuming it worked.
